The best way to travel to or from a Singapore cruise terminal depends on which terminal your ship uses, how much luggage you carry and who is with you. The MRT is cheap and works well for light travellers. Taxis and ride-hailing suit most couples and small parties. A pre-booked private transfer is the calmest choice for families, groups, heavy cases and tight flight connections, because the car is confirmed before you step outside.
This guide covers both terminals, realistic journey times, fares, child-seat rules and when to book ahead.
TL;DR
- Singapore has two cruise terminals, Marina Bay Cruise Centre and HarbourFront. Confirm yours first, as they sit on opposite sides of the city.
- From HarbourFront, the MRT reaches the city in about 15 minutes; a taxi to Changi Airport takes roughly 25 to 30 minutes in normal traffic.
- Taxi fares add peak-hour and late-night surcharges, so the same ride can cost noticeably more on a busy embarkation morning.
- With children, large cases or a group, a pre-booked private transfer removes the risk of waiting for a car.
- Families should state the need for a child seat when booking, as taxis are exempt from the child-restraint rule but ride-hail bookings can request one.

Which terminal is your ship using?
Singapore has two cruise terminals: the International Passenger Terminal at HarbourFront Centre and Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS). Your cruise confirmation or boarding documents name the terminal. Check it before you plan anything, because the best route to one is not the best route to the other.
In short:
- Marina Bay Cruise Centre is on the southern waterfront near Marina South Pier. It handles most large ships and has dedicated ground transport facilities.
- HarbourFront (Singapore Cruise Centre) is on the southwest side, beside the HarbourFront MRT station and the ferry services to nearby islands.
If you are flying in, add the airport leg. Changi Airport is roughly 18 to 20 km from both terminals, so plan for a transfer of around 30 to 60 minutes depending on the mode and traffic.
Your options at a glance
| Option | Best for | Things to know |
|---|---|---|
| MRT | Light luggage, solo travellers, budget | Walking and lift transitions with cases; best outside rain and midday heat |
| Taxi | Couples, small groups, spontaneous trips | Surcharges at peak and late-night; availability varies on busy days |
| Ride-hailing | Comparing fares in the app | Fares move with demand; can request a child seat when booking |
| Pre-booked private transfer | Families, groups, heavy luggage, tight schedules | Fixed arrangement agreed in advance; book ahead |
| Shuttles on select cruise days | Short hops to the MRT or attractions | Run only on select days, so check the terminal’s current information |
Getting to Marina Bay Cruise Centre
MBCCS completed a major upgrade in October 2025. According to the Singapore Tourism Board, it now has a Ground Transport Area with widened roadways, more coach bays, early baggage drop-off, ride-hailing lots with more than double the earlier capacity, and a looped shuttle linking Marina South Pier MRT station to the terminal on select cruise days. The Star reports 29 coach bays, 36 ride-hailing waiting spaces, 14 minibus parking spaces and 24 taxi waiting spaces.

What that means for you: there is real kerb and waiting capacity for cars and minibuses, which helps private transfers and group vehicles drop you close to the entrance.
By MRT
From MBCCS you walk to Marina South Pier station, where SMRT’s visitor guide lists the North-South Line, Circle Line and Thomson-East Coast Line connections. This is a sound budget route when you travel light. With several large cases, heat, rain and lift detours can turn a short final stretch into a tiring one, so consider a car for that last leg.
By taxi or ride-hailing
Both are easy options from the city and most hotels. Taxi fares follow the LTA’s published structure: a flag-down fare of S$4.40 to S$5.20 for standard taxis, plus distance-based and waiting-time charges. Surcharges stack on top:
- 25% peak-hour surcharge on weekdays from 6am to 9.29am (excluding public holidays) and from 5pm to 11.59pm (including public holidays).
- On weekends, the 25% surcharge applies from 10am to 1.59pm and from 5pm to 11.59pm.
- 50% late-night surcharge daily from midnight to 5.59am.
Embarkation mornings often overlap with the weekend late-morning window, so budget accordingly. Our guide to Marina Bay cruise transport goes deeper on drop-off routines at this terminal.
Staying near MBCCS the night before
If you stay the night beforehand, the Marina Bay, Marina Centre, City Hall and Raffles Place areas make a short taxi on sailing morning practical, according to a hotel guide for the port.
Getting to HarbourFront (Singapore Cruise Centre)

HarbourFront is the most public-transport-friendly of the two. From HarbourFront MRT station on the North East and Circle Lines, Exit B leads along a sheltered pathway and an overhead bridge to HarbourFront Tower 1, where the red terracotta terminal building is. Taxis and private hire vehicles can use the drive-through drop-off zone.
The terminal operator’s page gives these typical journey times:
- MRT to the city: about 15 minutes.
- MRT to Changi Airport: 40 to 50 minutes.
- Bus to Changi Airport: about 40 minutes.
- Taxi to the city: 10 to 15 minutes; to Changi: 25 to 30 minutes in normal traffic.
See the HarbourFront passenger terminal page for the full details. Payment on public transport works with contactless bank cards, mobile wallets, EZ-Link or NETS FlashPay cards and the Singapore Tourist Pass, though admin fees apply on foreign-issued bank cards, per the same page.
Driving yourself
Parking is limited. The terminal operator strongly encourages public transport and lists nearby carparks at HarbourFront Tower 1, Keppel Bay Carpark and Keppel Bay Tower at S$2.80 per 30 minutes or part thereof. For a cruise of several days that adds up, so being dropped off is simpler. We explain the timing in our HarbourFront terminal transport guide.
From Changi Airport to your ship
Most international cruisers land at Changi and head straight to the terminal. You have three realistic paths:
- MRT plus a short taxi. Cheapest, but involves a change of lines and handling bags at stations.
- Taxi or ride-hailing from the arrival hall. Direct and simple, but price depends on the time of day and demand. Our article on airport transfer costs in Singapore explains why a ride-hail surge can sometimes cost more than a taxi.
- Pre-booked private transfer. A driver is assigned to your flight in advance. Our Changi airport transfer options guide compares them in detail.
If your flight lands late and your ship sails the same day, build in a generous margin for immigration, baggage reclaim and the drive. Cruise lines generally set check-in cut-offs well before sailing, so check your own boarding window.
Luggage, children and groups
Cruise luggage changes the equation. Several large cases, a pushchair and tired children make stairs, lift queues and long walks harder than the map suggests. A taxi or private-hire car is the easiest choice with cruise bags, and MBCCS offers early baggage drop-off and baggage transfer to Singapore hotels and Changi Airport through preferred third-party providers.
Child seats
Singapore’s Road Traffic Act requires children under 1.35 metres to use an approved child restraint or a seat belt. Drivers of light vehicles face a S$150 fine and three demerit points for failing to ensure this. Ministry of Transport confirmed in March 2025 that taxis are exempt because they serve street-hail trips, while ride-hail platforms must let passengers indicate a child seat need so the matched car arrives with one.
The practical rule: if you travel with young children, say so when you book, whichever service you use. The LTA’s family guide suggests booking a private hire car with a child seat option after a long day out. When you book a transfer with us, tell us the children’s ages and the seats you need so we can plan the vehicle.
Larger parties
A family of five with four cases will not fit a standard taxi. Minivans and MPVs take larger parties with luggage in one vehicle, and minibuses or coaches suit groups of friends, extended families or corporate cruise groups. Splitting a group across two taxis means two pickups and two sets of delays.
Should you pre-book or arrange transport on arrival?
Both work in Singapore, and plenty of passengers simply use the taxi rank or an app. Pre-booking is worth it when:
- you land on the day your ship sails, or your window is tight;
- you travel with children, elderly relatives or a lot of luggage;
- your party is bigger than four;
- you arrive between midnight and 6am, when the late-night surcharge applies to taxis;
- a ship is in port at the same time as others and the kerb will be busy.
The main benefit is certainty: the vehicle, the size and the pickup point are fixed before you travel. Our guide to cruise day transport in Singapore sets out how we suggest timing the journey to your boarding slot rather than the sailing time.
Private transfers with Kler Transport
We provide chauffeured private transfers across Singapore, including airport arrivals and departures, transfers between hotels and cruise or ferry terminals, and hourly bookings. Our fleet runs from sedans and MPVs to minibuses and coaches, so the vehicle matches your party. Our drivers are experienced and English-speaking, and we offer meet-and-greet and luggage handling.

Published rates on our rates page are:
| Service | Published rate |
|---|---|
| Airport arrival | S$65 to S$140 per trip |
| Airport departure | S$60 to S$130 per trip |
| Transfers | S$60 to S$130 per trip |
| Hourly booking | S$50 to S$100 per hour |
| Midnight charges | S$10 to S$20 |
The price depends on vehicle type, group size and the service you select. If you need a full day, such as a sightseeing stopover before your ship, see the charter vehicle rates, listed at S$450 per day. You can arrange everything through our booking reservation page, or read about our airport transfer service and ferry terminal transfers.
A simple plan for cruise day
- Confirm the terminal on your cruise documents the week before.
- Check your boarding window and aim to arrive inside it rather than at the last minute.
- Choose your mode using the table above: MRT for light luggage, taxi or app for small parties, private transfer for families and groups.
- Book child seats and larger vehicles in advance, whatever service you use.
- Allow extra time for weekend late mornings, evening peaks and rain.
- Keep your ship name and arrival time to hand for the driver or operator.
On the way back, the same logic applies in reverse. Disembarkation can be crowded, so if you have a flight the same day, arrange your pickup for after your allocated disembarkation time and leave a comfortable margin for Changi check-in.
FAQ
How do I get from Changi Airport to a Singapore cruise terminal?
The main choices are MRT with a short taxi, a taxi or ride-hail car straight from the arrival hall, or a pre-booked private transfer. The terminals are roughly 18 to 20 km from Changi, so allow 30 to 60 minutes depending on mode and traffic. With luggage, a direct car is usually the least tiring.
Can I take the MRT to the cruise terminal?
Yes. HarbourFront has its own MRT station on the North East and Circle Lines, with a sheltered route to the terminal. For Marina Bay, you travel to Marina South Pier station and walk or use the shuttle on select cruise days. It works best when your luggage is manageable.
Do taxis in Singapore have child seats?
Taxis are exempt from the child-restraint requirement because they are street-hail vehicles. If you need a seat, book a private hire or ride-hail car and indicate it when booking. When you book with us, tell us in advance so we can plan accordingly.
Is there a surcharge for early-morning or late-night cruise transfers?
Standard taxis add a 50% surcharge from midnight to 5.59am, plus a 25% peak-hour surcharge in the morning and evening windows set by the LTA. For our private transfers, the published midnight charge is S$10 to S$20.
Should I book my cruise transfer in advance?
It is a good idea if you travel with children, a group or heavy luggage, or if you have a tight schedule on sailing day. Booking ahead fixes the vehicle and pickup before you travel. Solo travellers with light bags can often manage with the MRT or a taxi.
