Malacca (also spelled Melaka), is a small but historically rich city in Johor. The city is a mix of old and new, and its diverse ethnicity gives it a unique ambiance. There are Chinese, Malay, Indian, Dutch and Portuguese influences and this can be seen from its architecture and cuisine. Malacca cuisine / Paranaken food is a must for any visitor and so is a visit to the many museums and historical sites the city has to offer. Malacca has been designated as a World Heritage City by UNESCO.
What To See and Do in Malacca

The Malacca cultural heritage is evident throughout the city. See the blend of Paranakan and Portuguese heritage and architecture alongside modern buildings, and the popular 200-year old Christ Church in the Stadthuys area and Dutch Square are must-see destinations.

Attractions include the Malacca Flyer, the 110m Taming Sari Tower (the first and only gyro tower in Malaysia), Little India, Chinatown, Malacca Botanical Gardens, Malacca Zoo, Melaka Crocodile Farm and Wonderland Theme Park.

Malacca was once one of the greatest trading ports in South East Asia. This status subsequently defined the city it is today. There are several popular Dutch and Portuguese historical sites - testament to Malacca's glorious past. An example is A'Formosa - a 500-year old fortress.

There are several museums in Malacca, including the popular Maritime Museum and naval Museum (in the shape of an ancient galleon), the Baba-Nyonya Heritage Museum and Cheng Ho's Cultural Museum. Cheng Ho was a Chinese Ming Dynasty admiral.

Malacca is a popular destination for golfers from around Malaysia and from Singapore. Examples are Ayer Keroh Country Club, Tiara Melaka Golf & Country Club and A'Famosa Golf Resort.

For the nature buff, Malacca has rainforests, recreational parks and concept farms. Places to visit include the Ayer Keroh Recreational Forest, Ayer Keroh Lake and the 65-acre Agro Park near Sungei Udang. The city also offers white sandy beaches and seaside resorts.

A visit to Malacca is not complete without tasting the wide range of Paranakan / Nyonya cuisine. Also available are a wide range of ethnic and Western cuisines at various dining spots throughout the city.
